BIG JUICY: WHAT UP MY LITTLE NEPHEWS & NIECEYS
THIS YO MAN BIG JUICY REMINDING YOU TO WATCH WELCOME TO FRESBERG
BY SUBSCRIBING TO YOUTUBE TODAY @ FRESBERGCARTOON FRANKIE: HEY GRANNY MAXINE WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
MAXINE: OH BABY JUST IN HERE GETTING READY FOR THANKSGIVING WHIPPING UP A LITTLE SOMETHING
IN THE KITCHEN. FRANKIE: BUT GRANNY MAXINE. THANKSGIVING ISN’T
UNTIL THURSDAY GRANNY MAXINE. IT’S ONLY MONDAY. WHY ARE YOU COOKING SO EARLY? MAXINE: YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT TYPE OF COOKING
I DO ON THANKSGIVING. THAT IS NOT SOMETHING I CAN JUST PUT IT ALL TOGETHER IN ONE DAY.
IT TAKES TIME BOY, OR WHAT I LIKE TO CALL PREPARATION. FRANKIE : WHAT IS PREPARATION. THAT IS A REALLY
BIG WORD GRANNY MAXINE. WHAT DOES IT MEAN? MAXINE: WELL BABY PREPARATION IS TAKING TIME
OUT, TO MAKE SURE WHEN YOU WANT SOMETHING TO GET IT DONE IN ORDER. YOU NEVER WANT TO
RUSH INTO SOMETHING. YOU WANT TO TAKE TIME OUT WELL AHEAD OF WHAT YOU NEED TO GET IT
DONE, SO THAT YOU DON’T HAVE TO RUSH AND DO THINGS LAST MINUTE.
FRANKIE: OH YOU MEAN LIKE WHEN I WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO DO MY HOMEWORK AND I GET
ALL CRAZY. MAXINE: EXACTLY BABY. THAT’S WHY WHEN YOU
COME IN FROM SCHOOL I MAKE YOU GET ALL OF YOUR CHORES DONE, AND THEN YOUR HOMEWORK AS
WELL BECAUSE ALL OF THAT IS A PRIORITY. YOU HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO PLAN IN ORDER TO GET THINGS
DONE. BUT RIGHT NOW I GOTTA GET BACK TO GETTING THANKSGIVING DINNER READY. WHY DON’T YOU GO
OUTSIDE AND PLAY WITH YOUR FRIENDS UNTIL IT’S TIME TO COME IN. CHILLS: HEY FRANKIE. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?
FRANKIE: JUST CHILLING WITH MY GRANNY MAXINE AT THE HOUSE. SHE’S AT HOME GETTING READY
FOR THANKSGIVING. LEE: I HEARD THAT. SHE’S LIKE ME WHEN I’M
WRITING A FINE RAP SONG. IF I’M GOING TO MAKE IT TIGHT I HAVE TO MAKE SURE ITS READY WAY
IN ADVANCE BEFORE I BUST A FLOW. FRANKIE: YEAH THAT IS JUST HOW SHE IS. MY
GRANNY KNOWS HOW TO GET DOWN IN THE KITCHEN FOR THANKSGIVING AND I KNOW ON THURSDAY THAT
SOUL FOOD IS GOING TO BE GOOD. CHILLS: WHAT IS SOUL FOOD?
LEE: COME ON DUDE. YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT SOUL FOOD IS? MAN SOUL FOOD IS. MAN FRANKY WHAT
IS SOUL FOOD. CHILLS: REALLY LEE? I MEAN REALLY?
FRANKIE: I’M NOT FOR SURE WHAT LEE’S TALKING ABOUT BUT GRANNY MAXINE COOKS REALLY GOOD
FOOD FOR THANKSGIVING. SHE COOKS COLLARD GREENS, OKRA, HOMEMADE MACARONI AND CHEESE, PEACH
COBBLER, CANDY YAMS. CHILLS: I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANY OF THAT
KIND OF FOOD FRANKIE. MY MOM AND ABUELA COOK ENCHILADAS, TAMALES, ALL TYPES OF FOOD FROM
MEXICO. FRANKIE: REALLY. MY GRANNY COOKS LIKE THAT
ALL THE TIME. I’M SURPRISED YOU HAVEN’T HAD ANY FOOD LIKE THAT BEFORE CHILLZ.
CHILLZ: NOPE. THE ONLY THING WE COOK ON THANKSGIVING IT’S JUST THE MEXICAN FOOD LIKE I SAID AND
A TURKEY TOO FOR MY DAD. HE LIKES THANKSGIVING TURKEY, CRANBERRY SAUCE, DRESSING, MASHED
POTATOES AND GRAVY, PIE AND STUFF LIKE THAT. SO FRANKIE DOES THAT MEAN MY FOOD DOESN’T
HAVE ANY SOUL? FRANKIE: I DON’T KNOW CHILLZ. I DIDN’T KNOW
THAT THERE WERE ANY OTHER WAYS TO EAT ON THANKSGIVING EXCEPT FOR HOW MY GRANDMA COOKS?
LEE: MAN FRANKIE YOU SURE ARE LUCKY. I WISH MY GRANDMA WOULD GET DOWN LIKE THAT IN THE
KITCHEN. BIRD: GRANNY MAXINE YOU SURE DO LOOK TIRED.
MAXINE: BABY I WILL BE OK. I JUST DID A TON OF WORK IN THE KITCHEN GETTING READY FOR THANKSGIVING.
BUT I AM THANKFUL THAT I CAN STILL GET UP AND DO IT AND MAKE SURE ALL OF YOU BABIES
ARE TAKEN CARE OF ON THANKSGIVING. I’M JUST THANKFUL FOR THAT.
FRANKIE: MAXINE WHY DOES YOUR FOOD HAVE SOUL? BIRD: FRANKIE WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
FRANKIE: WELL WHEN I WAS OUT PLAYING TODAY I WAS TELLING CHILLS AND LEE ABOUT GRANNY
MAXINE’S SOUL FOOD AND THEY DIDN’T KNOW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. SO WHY DOES YOUR FOOD
HAVE SOUL? MAXINE: WELL BABY THE FOOD THAT I COOK AND
THE WAY I COOK IT HAS BEEN PASSED DOWN FROM GENERATIONS TO GENERATIONS. MY MOTHER COOKED
THAT WAY. HER MOTHER COOKED THAT WAY AND IT GOES ON JUST LIKE THAT. YOU SEE WHEN IT COMES
TO AFRICAN AMERICANS IN THIS COUNTRY WE DIDN’T ALWAYS HAVE IT EASY AND WHEN IT CAME TO COOKING
AND SOUL FOOD THAT WAS A WAY TO COMFORT THE SOUL.
BIRD: THAT’S REALLY COOL GRANNY MAXINE. DURING HARD TIMES WE GOT TOGETHER AND ENJOYED
A MEAL TOGETHER AS A FAMILY. THAT IS WHY I PUT IN SO MUCH WORK WHEN I COOK FOR YOU ALL.
NOT ONLY ON THANKSGIVING BUT ALL THE TIME. FRANKIE: I GET IT. I WISH MY FRIENDS CAN HAVE
SOULFOOD LIKE US. THEY WERE REAL SAD WHEN I I TOLD THEM ABOUT ALL THE FOOD YOU WERE
COOKING. THEY SAID IT SOUNDED REALLY GOOD. BIRD: THAT’S BECAUSE THEY’RE GREEDY.
FRANKIE: NO THEY’RE NOT. MAXINE: NOW IT IS NOT THE TIME FOR FUSSING
AND FIGHTING YOU GUYS. WELL THANK YOU I TELL YOU WHAT. I’VE GOT A FEW EXTRAS THAT I THINK
I CAN LET YOU AND YOUR BUDDIES COME ON IN TOMORROW AND WE WILL HAVE OUR OWN LITTLE MINI
THANKSGIVING. HOW DOES THAT SOUND? FRANKIE: THAT SOUNDS REALLY COOL GRANNY MAXINE.
BIRD: BUT WHAT ABOUT MY FRIENDS? MAXINE: WELL BABY YOU CAN BRING YOUR FRIENDS
TOO. GRANNY MAXINE: OH WOW. LOOKS LIKE WE HAVE
A HOUSE FULL TODAY. BIRD: YEAH GRANNY MAXINE. WE CAN’T WAIT FOR
SOME OF YOUR GOOD OLD FASHIONED SOUL FOOD. CHILLS: YEAH GRANNY MAXINE. FRANKIE TOLD ME
THAT YOU HAVE THE BEST PEACH COBBLER IN THE WORLD AND WHEN YOU PUT YOUR HOMEMADE ICE CREAM
WITH IT, IT IS BOMB. GRANNY MAXINE: WELL FORGIVE ME FOR NOT KNOWING
YOUR WAY OF TALKING BUT I HOPE THAT BY BOMB THAT MEANS GOOD?
JOE: YEAH THAT REALLY MEANS GOOD GRANNY MAXINE. THANKS FOR HAVING US OVER.
SAM: YEAH I ALWAYS LOVE TO EAT GOOD FOOD BUT I NEVER UNDERSTOOD THE WHOLE SOUL FOOD THING.
WHAT IS IT? GRANNY MAXINE: WELL MANY PEOPLE MAY TELL YOU
DIFFERENT STORIES. FOR EXAMPLE GRANNY MAXINE HAS BEEN AROUND A LONG TIME BUT I REMEMBER
BACK WHEN I WAS A YOUNG GIRL IN THE 60’S WE HAD SO MANY DIFFERENT CHANGES. EVERYTHING
FROM OUR STYLE OF DRESS, TO THE MUSIC WE LISTENED TO, TO THE FOOD WE ATE. BEING A GIRL FROM
THE SOUTH WE HEARD SO MANY TIMES HEY SOUL BROTHER OR EVEN WITH OUR MUSIC BEING CALLED
SOUL MUSIC, WE WENT RIGHT ALONG WITH THAT OF COURSE WE HAVE THE TERM SOUL FOOD. BUT
TO ME SOUL FOOD THAT’S GOOD OL SOUTHERN COOKING THAT MY MAMA USED TO MAKE.
JO: THAT IS REALLY NEAT GRANNY MAXINE. GRANNY MAXINE: NOW OUR FAMILY TODAY WOULD
BE CONSIDERED AFRICAN AMERICAN BUT BACK IN THE DAY THE TERM WAS EITHER BLACK, COLORED
OR NEGRO WHEN I WAS YOUNG. SO IN THE SOUTH WE WERE ALWAYS GOOD FOOD COOKS NOT BASED ON
WHAT WE HAD TO COOK WITH BUT MAKING SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING GIVING YOU FOOD FROM THE SOUL.
FRANKIE: I DIDN’T KNOW THAT GRANNY MAXINE. SO WHAT YOU’RE SAYING IS YOU ARE A SOUL SISTER?
GRANNY MAXINE: THAT’S RIGHT (MAKING A FIST IN THE AIR. NOW LET’S STOP TALKING AND YOU
GUYS ENJOY THIS THANKSGIVING TREAT.
