Fear of Holes Makeup Tutorial | Special FX Series (CC)

Just a heads up, there is a little bit of “blood” in this video and a little bit of fake gore If the sight of holes makes you feel queasy, you might want to sit out on this one Please just be aware. (music) Good evening. In this tutorial I am going to be going over the “fear of holes” Those were supposed to be quotes, my fingers did not want to work, haha! I actually started to research the fear of holes and the inter web told me that this is like a new phobia that developed amongst human beings in like the 2000’s. The fear has to do more with things that are actually poisonous, or actually dangerous that have holes in them, which makes objects that are not dangerous, like pancake batter, scary. *sings* The more you knooooow!! Don’t forget to check out my other FX videos in this series, which I will put in the corners down here. All of the products I used today will be listed somewhere around the video, also don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, feel free to contact me! I am going to show you guys two different spots. One, down here because its more of a smooth texture, and then I am also going to show you on my hand because it does make a difference when you actually have lines and pores and etc. On your forearm, its more like… flat. For this tutorial I am going to be using modeling wax, which you guys can see I have used… a lot. And there are a zillion different brands of wax. You guys can find this anywhere at a Halloween store. Mine is from Graftobian, which you can find online. Yes, there are differences in different brands of wax so it’s up to you, and you will see the consistency is slightly varying. For this tutorial, we are going to assume you want this to last all night long, so I am going to start off by applying some Pros-Aid [adhesive] to where I am going to apply the wax to. You can also use spirit gum for this step. You then are going to take a good size ball of wax, and make sure you have makeup remover or Vaseline, something slippery on your finger tips, that way you’ll be able to work with it, and it won’t stick to your fingertips I am then flattening it out… Trying to get it about as big as I want it… … into a pancake … You then are just going to stick it onto your skin. Add a little more Vaseline on your fingertips… or finger nails… and you should be able to smooth it right into your skin. You can also use a [makeup] spatula, but you can also get a lot done just smashing your finger tips on it. Don’t feel like this is something that you have to rush literally, just mess with it! Unless you do have to rush, and do have to get out the door, in which case, I don’t know what to tell ya. I’m then going in with a spatula that has a little Vaseline on it, and just going over the entire patch. Using the back of a makeup brush, and a little bit of Vaseline, I am then just going to create the holes. You can make them as spaced out, or close together as you want. I personally think the effect looks much cooler if you have them pretty close Make sure you do go all the way out to the edges, don’t be afraid! Any edges you may have lifted from poking the holes in it, you can smooth out with a [makeup] spatula. If you’re REALLY careful, you can probably use your finger tips, but… y’know. So it’s not sticky, and ready to paint, I am then going to be applying my color powder foundation. To add the “blood” I am using an alcohol based makeup, and just going around the edges first, and this is with a darker, more dried blood looking color. I personally like my “blood” to be very dark looking anyways, I don’t like it to be super bright like ketchup. Now realistically, you can leave it here if you want, but I am going to fill some of these in with a regular blood tone color, just to make it look like they are brand new and blood is coming up from them. Wonderful…. (creepy) Now here’s the difference if you actually do something on your hand, or where there is texture, pores in your skin, wrinkles in your skin… I mean, technically you have skin texture everywhere, its just not as prominent. I am first applying my Pros-Aid. Then once again scooping up some wax with Vaseline, or makeup remover, Just like before, I am once again smoothing it out over my hand. I am then going to be taking a thin object, in this case it is the needle from my airbrush, and just very carefully adding some skin texture around the edges. For this application, since we’re applying so many holes, it’s not going to really matter towards the middle, it’s more so blending the edges into your regular skin texture. PRO TIP: You guys can also use different things that have “skin” like the skin of an orange, and press that on the wax to give yourself a stamp of “skin texture.” You guys can almost barely see the edges on my palm itself, other than it being shiny right now. Just like the other application, I am going to go in and poke all of my holes. Because the skin on my palm is differently colored than the skin on my forearm I am going to be ripping out… MORE HOLES! … from a sponge to help give me that veiny texture. I am then going in with a more “blush” tone to match the redness of my hand. This is the alcohol based paint. I am then just once again filling in all of the blood in all of the holes. IF by chance you guys want the holes to look REALLY deep, you can add a little bit of black at the bottom. Once you have the techniques down, you can pretty much put it wherever you want! You can actually make an entire look out of it! For any effects videos, the only thing I request is that you don’t actually wear this out in public NOT on Halloween Please don’t use fake injuries to legitimately scare a little old lady into an ambulance or something… (music)

  1. Why lex why ?! The thumbnail makes me so scared to even LOOK at this … 😱😱😱
Seriously small holes make me want to itch and gag and get goosebumps and chills …

  2. Lex love your vids, but do you think you'll do vampire bites for this Halloween? my boyfriends gonna be a vampire and I wanna be his victim so I wanna learn how to do them, hopefully from you 🙂

  3. i tried watching the video without watching the video.. idk, a lot of holes in one place makes my body feel cold and its weird

  4. So about a year ago I had this odd dream where there was a hole under my middle finger nail on my right hand. I thought nothing of it and was terrified when I woke up. Every now and then I feel uncomfortable because brains are so powerful. This made me slightly uncomfortable but since I could tell it wasn't real holes in 3-D, I'm good.

  5. Hi Lex, you always blow me away with your make-up tutorials! I wondering if you could do a DmC 5 Dante look in his "Devil Trigger" Mode?! I love you!!! <333

  6. I have no idea why I watched this but curiosity got the best of me. I don't have too much of a phobia of holes but after seeing that, I started scratching my skin. Crazy.

  7. This is so sickening. Like I felt queasy if I stared at it too long but I just find it cool and weird and creepy all at the same time.

  8. The holes dont weird me out. It intrigues me, and wants me just keep looking at them. Is anyone else like that? or am I just weird. lmao btw I love your videos they are beyonddd amazing.

  9. Is it weird that I never get "phobia attacks" when I watch a tutorial? Like, holes freak me the fuck out, but when I see how they were made and when you talked about it I felt totally ok?

  10. 2 questions.. why are people getting itchy? and I'm confused do u guys means holes the movie, holes in the ground or Wat? somebody tell me please🙋😝

  11. Did you know that there are actual wounds that look like this caused by jiggers. It's creepy to look at I spent about an hour online looking at it the other night.

  12. I have trypophobia so I didn't watch cuz I just clicked & paused & scrolled, but yeah ever since I was a kid things with a bunch of little holes actually send shivers down my spine like I will probably go look at pictures of puppies for the next few minutes cuz I'm that bothered by the thumbnail.

  13. I guess with the whole phobia to holes I get goosebumps when I see a hole in someone's leg , arm, from a spider bite.. ahh so gross :/

  14. Hey Lex! So here's kind of a similar idea for you (not really but kinda). I'm really terrified of things crawling around (maggots mostly) the skin and flesh. It would be really creepy and might be interesting to try out.
By the way, I've been watching your channel for about two years now and every time I see a video, it makes the 13 year old me really scared and the current me really excited. Keep up all the good you do 🙂

  15. I'm on a mobile device, and can't click the videos at the end. Could you pretty please put links in the description box in future videos? That would be really handy 😊 thank yooou.

  16. I don't like holes, but I figure if I do a makeup with holes and make myself uncomfortable as possible. Then it will be a good makeup result.

  17. I'm sorry — I have the phobia… I watched it anyway — I always watch your videos, their inspirational to me ^^ my phobia isn't that bad of it, but it's still super creepy.

  18. Yep, 3 seconds into the video after the warning, I had to stop watching LOL.

It looked really professional though, to the point it made me stop watching. Haha. Great job as always! <3

  19. I love your vids Lex but I don't know about this one. Still love it and you said at the beginning not to watch it but I'll do it for you❤️

  20. I have been wondering what things with certain textures like the holes make me so nauseated…. this is probably it….wow, never had a phobia before…glad apperently I'm not alone though!

  21. Man I think you can make a creepy look out of these holes! This effect plus your make up skill will scare anyone!!! Please do a look with this effect

  22. For some reason, lotus flower seeds photoshopped into skin is the only one that makes me want to throw up. This one was eh, but I could watch it.

  23. I was uncomfortable watching the video; but the irony was that it wasn't because of the holes (I don't really like it, but it's more that I found it gross lol), but because of the wrist. Like, not even the veins or anything, it's really the wrist, I cannot stand seeing or directly touching a wrist… So I was looking away most of the time ^^'

But anyway, good video, as usual ^^

  24. For anyone suffering from trypophobia, try haevening. You can find out about it on YouTube and Google.
I used to have panic attacks and get itchy all over whenever I saw something like this. Now, I still won't purposefully look for trigger images but if I come across them I can deal with it without breaking down xxx

  25. With how you said not to go out in makeup like this to actually scare people, when I was studying film makeup and working on sets if at any time our models or actors wanted to leave for lunch, etc we had to make signs saying 'This is makeup. Do not be alarmed.' for them to carry and accompany them where ever they went just in case anyone wanted to ask anything or express their dislike/fear or interest.
