Hey guys, today we are going to talk about Animation ok? Animation is it’s very nice weather outside… anyway animation is a very tough subject, and also interesting I watched lots of videos on youtube I checked them most of them aren’t so… stong who talks about main fundamentals… so I thought, why not make them… first of all, let me give a disclaimer the videos I’m going to make on animation it’s not for them who takes animation lightly.. so whoever takes animation seriously whoever is taking it seriously they’re welcome otherwise sorry so, let’s get started so, here is our software… and here is my pen tablet so what’s now, in animation there is total 12 principles and in those 12 principles we will describe all of then in our late video right now from those 12 principles there is one called timing ok? and this is the root of animation if you get this timing and spacing if you get these two means you got the root of animation let talk about this let me clean this quickly! this software is called Krita this is a free software and you can do 2d on this I will work on 3d but in Maya but to understand the concept I open this if you understand the concept you can use it anywhere, in Maya, blender, or whatever software you use because you don’t need to know the software deeply for animation let’s presume that this is a ball which is going to move from here to here so that is timing? timing comes with every moving thing where time involves..timing will be there. like dance, which is a timing-based performance dance, music what happens in dance, there is a rhythm of timing also for music if there is a rhythm like this one kind of timing is there in this after one sound how much time the second sound takes to appear that’s also a rhythm let’s take another tapping like this it’s happening in the gap of one second so right if we increase or decrease the current gap of one second ,then the rhythm will get better, as in the rhythm will create this is timing one one thing, let’s say this ball will move from here to here in how much time that’s timing let’s clean this let’s say this ball is moving from here to here in one second. ok? this is a one-second gap let’s assume that it will return in 24 frames I’ll copy this frame this is not actually 24 frames bcoz it’s starting from zero put the last frame in 48 now a little mismatch was coming why it’s not working? what just happened? yes! it will keep going like that. each drawing will appear in one second I forgot to tell one thing, what happens in animation each image will be counted like you can see here, from 0 to 24 these each slot is called a frame these are each page when people do classical hand-drawn 2d. like I draw on the first page, then on the next page there is a way to put drawing but the process goes like that. and this one page is one frame now i can copy the same page multiple times but it will also called a frame now one page is one frame one second happens with 24 frames by the way, I can take any number as a second you can do it in 12 frames, or 6 frames you can use any number you can use 30 fps also fps stands for frames per second frames per second ok? you can choose any fps currently, it’s set to 24 fps you can use 30 fps also but you have to draw more frames on that case you will get the same amount of smoothness in 24 fps also, almost as like as 30 fps that’s it, let me clean it up right now its set to 24 fps it means this ball is moving in one second time now what to do let me tell the concept first, currently here as it’s moving here are two main frames one is here another is here I’ve drawn but it’s not the end result you have to show the transition also so now, we are going to do the transition I took a frame in the middle now let’s draw a frame here as well as daw a frame here also now it’s the same timing as it was before but a transition is happening from one pose to another pose let me smoothen the transition more I’ve to put more drawings how much smoother you want it to do you have to put that much of drawing that’s the basic concept of animation, there is nothing extra now as that been said, I’ll tell you later in this video where should you put the drawing this is the core concept now look it will be smoother but overall timing is the same ball move from one side to the other in each second if you want to make it more smooth you have to put more drawings now I’m stuck in here because the frame count is wrong here here the thing to learn that where to put the spacing spacing is the ultimate thing to learn let me put it roughly for now I’ll talk about it later we will talk about it in the next example I’m just drawing roughly ok? not thinking about any principles maybe it looks odd maybe any good animator is watching this video you see? it became more smooth, but the basic timing, from going from this pose to this pose and retuning from that that’s unchanged so this thing is timing how much timing it takes to go from this pose to that pose whatever is in the middle is spacing the gap between two drawing this gap…this gap… the gap between each drawing is called spacing and the total distance it’s traveling in a certain time is called timing this is the simple concept of timing and spacing if you don’t understand watch it again ok? but get that concept. now what I’m going to talk about might be a little bit confusing. because timing and spacing is related to each other if you change the timing the spacing will also change. and changing the spacing timing will change how? let’s take a new page here here is the ball again let’s say it’s moving from here to here in 9 frames. from here to here that’s it what will happen now, timing has decreased this is the first frame, frame 01 and this is the 9th frame and this object moving in 9 frames if i move it from one position to the other linearly without changing it’s spacing much then it’s spacing will look something like this I’ll draw the middle frame here which will be frame no 5 now I’ll draw a frame here which will be frame no 3 here will be frame 6 sorry it will be 7 here will be frame 2 here will be frame 4 here will be frame 6 here will be frame 8 there is no change in spacing spacing distance is the same for all let’s draw it quickly here is the frame no 5 it will be in the middle here is the frame no 3 in 3 it will be between 1 and 5 why it’s starting from 0? then in 7 it will be between 5 and 9 so now let’s make it 20 here it is now let’s smoothen it out I’m making the in-betweens right now it’s lagging because of the screen recorder you see? here it is now I’ll make the same animation whatever was happening before the same thing will happen but it will be in 17 frame it means i changed the timing I increase the timing it was happening in 9 frames now it will be in 17 frames here is the first frame and here is the last frame the middle frame will be here is the chart I’ll leave the middle frames for now like 2, 4 those will be in-betweens the thing now you see? here is the difference of timing let me compare the spacing of both here is frame 3 let’s draw the in-betweens. whatever concept we are using her we’ll use the same concept my Hindi is a little weak we’ll use the same concept in Maya see, thee is one thing noticeable and the thing is let’s change the color here is the center of this ball next frame is here 3rd frame’s middle is here 4th frame’s middle is here so what happened is the gap between each frame of this one means the spacing and the spacing of this one look at the spacing gap of this one it’s double of this one so as I decrease the timing spacing increased more the timing is less te spacing will be and as less the timing is spacing will be bigger now let’s assume that this ball is going from here to here in 3 frames it is moving where will be the middle frame? here surely in 3 frames it will be super fast so the spacing needs to be this big and more the diming is drawings will come closer to each other spacing will decrease more time means slow action spacing becomes closer for less timing means for the fast actions what happens is the increase of spacing gap sometimes it becomes so close this is the spacing concept now we cannot control timing directly we have to go through spacing to control the timing we have to learn to control the spacing. because timing is built into us whatever we are watching from the childhood those things build timing into our unconscious mind if there is any wrong timing our eyes will tell that something is wrong so how to control the spacing now let’s say till now whatever examples I was giving all of them were in even spacing means in each drawing spacing gap is equal now we are going to control the spacing all were in even spacing let’s see how we are going to control the spacing let’s assume from here in 5 frames in 5 frames the ball is moving from here to here so, that is the timing of it let’s see how the spacing is going to be here is 1 to 5 the middle frame is going to be let’s say it’s frame 3 ok, now how the ball will move that will define where the spacing position should be let’s assume this is the ball and it’s moving from here to here we want the movement to start slowly and end slowly start slowly, speed up in the middle, and end slowly so what we have to do for that for that, we have to take a frame in the middle, which will be frame no 3 let’s draw frame 3 insert here is the fame no 3 what happened now? whatever spacing it has currently, it’s an even spacing evenly spaced drawing let’s make the spacing odd what did i say? it will start slowly and gradually speed will increase and from this example shows that for slow timing the spacing needs to be closer isn’t it? so right now the important thing is to make the spacing closer here so let’s move the frame no 2 closer to frame no 1 and the frame no 4 will be placed here near frame no 5 let’s draw frame 2 near frame 1 and frame no 5 will be near frame 4 let’s check what happened nothing noticeable I did a mistake draw it in the wrong frame let’s make it closer let’s increase it’s timing a little so that we can see it let me put an in-between each frame means the timing becomes double still unnoticeable let’s increase it more whatever I’m doing is called registering it was not being registered because of the too fast movement so what I did? I just increase the timing didn’t touch the spacing it needs to be understood understand it very well I change the timing whatever was happening in 5 frames,. is now happening in 17 frames let me fix the chart this is called chart this is a good tool to understand spacing now let’s shorten the gap between frame 1 & 5 let me change the color of it put the frame no 3 closer to frame no 1 the last one frame 15 put the 15 closer to frame 17 if if you are facing difficulties to understand draw the chart in a page I think you will get it here it is now, you can clearly see that the spacing looks something like this spacing is increasing then decreasing what will happen because of that from this theory in case of slow movement, the spacing will be closer together and for fast movement spacing will be farther apart here the spacings are closer so here the movement will be slower spacing is increasing here here it will move faster and then it will go slower again ok? now let’s draw it frame 3 frame 15 frame 7 frame 11 you see? started slowly and end slowly let’s make the last part more slower i can add more spacing how? increase the timing… simple concept add some frame here make it more closer… you see? I can make the middle more fast let’s say that in 9 frames i want to finish this ok let’s keep the same frame the final frame is 17 here is 9 in the middle let’s push this (5) closer the more close you make it the slower it will be it was here in this place i push it closer and this one frame no 13 closer to fame 15 now let’s see a magic ok let’s make it closer let’s remove the drawing there make it so close almost completely overlapped this one also will be overlapped more almost on top of each other I didn’t make the chart… that’s why I’m getting confused. one sec, let’s make the chart first frame 11 will be here see? so fast in the middle much more than this one so this is the concept that’s the way we will keep going if you have any doubt then let me know in the comment about the doubt I’ve included facebook’s link you can ask there also and that’s it.. you see? we have to fill the in-betweens to get a smoother result it’s so close..
